I love helping my clients uncover the power they possess to navigate the challenges in their lives; my role is helping them access it.  I often view myself as a co-pilot to my clients – they’re in the driver’s seat and I’m holding a map!  I use my curiosity and training to guide the process, asking questions and prompting introspection, bringing focus and clarity to the search for solutions.  My fundamental belief about therapy is that the best solutions to the problems we face come from within when we draw upon our intrinsic sense of how we want to be in the world.  I empower my clients to use this resource effectively.  I love getting to know my clients and the unique way they show up in the world, and place great importance on building a strong connection to serve as the foundation for the work we will do together.

I work with individuals and couples of all ages and identities who are facing challenges in their lives related to mental health, relationships, work, and more. Many of my clients are high-achieving individuals or parents who appear “put-together” on the outside but may be privately struggling with a sense of anxiety, disconnection, or burnout.  Others may feel lost or directionless, stuck in a place where a path out of the suffering is hard to find. Through our work together, my clients learn effective tools and develop a greater sense of self-understanding, allowing them to more clearly identify their values and move towards greater health, fulfilment, and engagement with the life they want.

What You Can Expect When Working With Tyler

I have often been described as having a calm, grounding presence, and I bring that energy to sessions with my clients.  Clients appreciate the relaxed environment of my office – even when tackling the “heavy” stuff, I believe there is immense value in levity and humour as well! I pride myself on remembering the small details of your story, allowing us to draw connections over time and help you see your situation in a new light.  I want you to feel like you have a teammate with you who is just as invested in your growth and progress as you are.

I take an integrative approach to counselling, meaning that I draw from numerous therapeutic schools-of-thought in order to find the tools and techniques that fit for each unique client.  I utilize Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-Centered, Emotion Focused, and Solution-Focused Therapy.  My aim is for our sessions to feel useful, engaging, and tailored to your needs.

Tyler's Experience & Training

After completing my undergraduate studies in psychology, I took some time to find my path towards counselling as a profession.  I underwent my own personal struggles with mental health, and through them discovered my passion for connecting with and helping others overcome their challenges.

I completed my Master of Counselling Psychology degree and began my work with clients in private practice, where I have had the privilege of supporting a wide range of individuals and couples. I find a particular sense of fulfillment working with people who are struggling to find their footing or their “why” in life.  Having walked that path myself, I understand the frustration and helplessness that can result from feeling stuck with mental health issues.

More About Tyler

I enjoy a balance of exciting activities and relaxed leisure.  I love spending time with close friends and loved ones enjoying food and games, though I find my most recharging moments are those spent alone in quiet reading, walking in nature, or video games.

I am an avid cyclist and downhill skier, and find the activities incredibly effective at bringing my mind into sharp focus on the present moment.  I have also picked up the sport of pickleball over the last few years and have had a blast improving my skills (and being humbled by players twice my age).

At home, I am busy adjusting to life as a new parent and taking care of my daughter.  The experience has given both me and my wife a new level of empathy for other parents and anyone else experiencing chronic sleep deprivation!
