Frequently Asked Questions

Postpartum depression can occur up to six months after your baby is born. If you feel hopeless, sad, worthless, and tearful, you are likely experiencing postpartum depression.

When women have postpartum depression, they feel like they are doing a terrible job as a new mom. They often have trouble bonding with their baby, which can cause a lot of guilt. Sometimes, they can’t eat, sleep, or take care of their baby because of your overwhelming despair.

If you feel this way,it is important to know that you are not a bad mother, and this is treatable. It is essential to seek out help immediately.

Many people are not aware that you can also experience debilitating levels of anxiety after giving birth or adopting! And while It’s totally normal to worry more than usual after having a baby, when you have postpartum anxiety, the worry can be all-consuming. Irrational fears about something awful happening to the baby can lead to loss of sleep, trying to control your environment, and even fear of leaving the house.

If this is happening to you, please reach out for help right away to your doctor or a therapist so that you can reclaim your life!

Postpartum depression requires treatment. It usually responds well to therapy, or a combination of therapy and medication.

Many people with postpartum depression are highly self-critical, and feel that they should be able to power through, or that their baby would be better off with someone else. Please do not make this mistake – it is very scary to experience postpartum depression, and therapy can help.

We sure can. The first thing we will help you clarify is the root cause of the overwhelm. Sometimes overwhelm after having a baby is due to a genuinely challenging and complicated situation, either in the family or with the physical changes and new responsibilities that come with having a baby (um, like breastfeeding around the clock, for example?).

Sometimes the overwhelm comes from feeling not good enough, and like you just can’t get it right. Perfectionism and parenting are a perfect storm.

Whatever your overwhelm is about, we’ve got you. Give us a call, or book online.

Yep, for some inexplicable reason, babies don’t seem too keen to work around their parents’ schedule (spoiler alert: same with teens).

Not to worry. We can always book virtual sessions so that you can join from your nursing chair, your car, or anywhere else you need to be. And if you want to come to our office in person, we don’t bat an eye at crying babies, nursing sessions, or diaper changes.
