Full Bio

Meaningful, honest  conversations are the precursor to change. I have always felt an aliveness in connecting with people on a deep level, whether holding space for grief or sharing a laugh. While we all possess the capacity to thrive, sometimes the perspective and skills of a therapist can help us tap into our needs and fine tune our approach. The right help at the right time can support us in reaching what we strive for, and accessing the grounded and capable self within.

I have lived experience with loss , unrealized dreams, and chronic illness.  I know what it is like to struggle with loneliness, disappointment, grief, fear and anger, and I also know what it is like to create more openness and calm inside, in order to live and relate with more clarity and integrity.

What You Can Expect When Working With Peggy

My clients tell me  that they find my approach refreshing, and that they appreciate my realness, my warmth and my humour, as well as my ability to help them connect to  parts of themselves from a new and more compassionate perspective.

I listen with an open heart and an open mind. I work collaboratively with my clients to overcome challenges they are facing.  This  may involve harnessing forgotten inner strengths,  understanding and releasing old patterns or finding alternatives to coping skills and ways of relating to the self and others that no longer serve. I support my clients to open up to life’s contradictions, and to accept that pain and joy and purpose can (and do) live side by side.

Peggy's Experience & Training

Counselling is my second career – after years of feeling unfulfilled and seeking more meaning and purpose in my work,  I took the leap in my 30s and trained to become a therapist. I hold a masters in Counselling Psychology, and have worked at several leading agencies, non-profit counselling services, and private clinics. I currently work for Vancouver Coastal Health, Primary Care Network as a mental health counsellor, supporting my clients through a wide range of issues. I am experienced in treating anxiety, depression, addiction, grief and loss (including MAID and suicide bereavement) and trauma. I also frequently see clients presenting with the typical human struggles of relationship issues, low self worth, perfectionism, people pleasing, life transitions, chronic pain and illness.

More About Peggy

Outside the therapy office, a few of my favourite things include long meandering bike rides, jumping into cold lakes (and then warming up on hot rocks), and spending weekends absorbed in a novel. I relish the small joys: crisp apples, my morning coffee, a soothing heating pad, and playing pranks on my (ever tolerant) loved ones.

I have a flair for comedy and the dramatic, and I love to entertain my friends and family by perfecting various accents and recounting events and stories that crack people up.

I deeply value  spending quality time with the people I care for and travelling to new places, at my own pace, on my own time. I have a long held fantasy that I live in a world with teleportation, so that I wouldn’t have to experience motion sickness or traffic jams.
